A MEMBER of staff was spat at and assaulted by a gang of youths at a train station near Glasgow.

The incident happened on Sunday, February 27 on the 3.55pm service from East Kilbride to Glasgow Central.

A group of five or six teenagers began harassing and verbally abusing the train conductor on the service.

When the train arrived at Hairmyres station at 4pm, the group followed her to the platform and continued shouting and swearing at her.

Members of the group pushed her and two teenage boys spat at her.

The conductor walked away from them, then several minutes later a teenage girl from the group approached her again and continued to be verbally abusive towards her.

The youths are believed to be between the ages of 14 and 16.

The first male is described as white, of slim build and wearing a grey hoody with tracksuit bottoms.

The second had a round face, of slim build and with short dark hair, wearing a dark tracksuit.

The third; tanned skin, of slim build, with dark eyes and wearing a dark tracksuit with grey on it.

The fourth, a white male of slim build, with short dark hair, wearing a white and navy tracksuit top and bottoms.

The female from the group is described as white, of slim build, and with dark hair in a ponytail. At the time of the incident she was wearing a white and grey long-sleeved top.

Police officers are urging anyone who has information or eyewitness account of the incident to come forward.
