A MAN was taken to hospital after he was seriously assaulted in an unprovoked attack in the city centre. 

The 41-year-old was verbally abused and assaulted by another man at around 3pm on Thursday, March 3 when walking with a friend on Buchanan Street. 

Following the assault, the suspect ran up Buchanan Street towards the Royal Concert Hall. 

The suspect is described as white with a stocky build, bald head and is in his 40s. 

He was wearing dark clothing and was carrying a tan-coloured puppy. 

He was also with a female.

The victim and his friend were helped by people at the scene before making their way to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. 

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage for information but are appealing for information from anyone who was on Buchanan Street at the time.

Detective Inspector Stuart Gillies said: "This has been a despicable and utterly unprovoked attack on a man visiting the city centre.

"This is not acceptable behaviour and we are determined to locate the man responsible.

"I know there were lots of people milling about in Buchanan Street yesterday and I am appealing to them to get in touch with us.

"We cannot allow these people to get away with such violence. If you saw anything that you think will help us, please get in touch, even if you’re not sure if it’s relevant, let us be the judge and pass it on."
