A determined young group of school pupils took to the streets of Glasgow's West End yesterday for a litter pick to raise funds for those affected by the Ukrainian crisis.

The team of nine children, who attend Kelvinside Academy, were inspired to raise funds for the cause after watching reports from Ukraine on Newsround with their teachers.

Glasgow Times:

The group, whose ages range from five to eight years old, has already raised over £3000 in GoFundMe donations, completely smashing their initial £250 target.

As well as this, the hard-working children managed to fill a massive number of bags of rubbish with the help of parent volunteers.

Lucy Ewer, an organiser of the litter pick and mum to two of the young boys involved, said: "We wanted to do something to help those families in distress but wanted to do more than just donate money, whilst helping those in Ukraine we were also supporting our local community in the area around the school.

"We found a lot of Buckfast bottles as well as facemasks.

"The most obscure findings were an inhaler, a child’s car seat and a pair of pants.

"The day was finished with pizza and ice cream for the exhausted children and parents."

Glasgow Times:

A huge well done to the group which included: Roddy Ewer and Fergus Ewer, Oscar Williamson, Pearl Blackburn, Lachlan Reade, Murray Wilson, Clara Church, Emily Neilson, Thor Paice-Dargey and Fergus Paice-Dargey.
