A WOMAN assaulted three cops, including kicking one to the stomach, after drinking a “significant” amount of booze.

Margaret Andrews, 53, was found outside her East End flat with blood on her face and clothes and bruises on her nose.

She kicked off after cops turned up to find out what happened on June 19, last year.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, the prosecutor said: “Police were called due to reports of noise. She was immediately hostile, refusing to give her details or advise them what had happened to her face.

“She was shouting to police ‘f*****g leave me alone I just want in my flat’. She eventually advised her name and was saying she only looking for access into her flat but did not have her keys and refused to give police any more information.

“She became aggressive shouting ‘f**k off you c***s’ whilst waving her arms. Police informed her she was under arrest. They took hold of her arms to restrain her.”

Andrews then lunged towards one of the officers, in an attempt to headbutt him.

Whilst she was being moved from the close to the cell van, she struck out with her legs and assaulted another police officer by kicking him to his left leg.

And whilst inside the van, Andrews, of Greenfield, managed to slip her right hand out of the handcuffs and assaulted a female police officer by using her nails to scratch her hand.

The prosecutor added: “She was continuing to shout ‘f**k you all’. She was transferred to Cathcart police office. She was thereafter taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She continued to shout and swear and be aggressive towards police.

"Whilst within the hospital she was trying to throw herself out of a chair.

“She kicked her legs out kicking a police officer on the stomach. Police thereafter restrained her legs, and she raised her arms upwards, striking the officer on the head with handcuffs.

“Due to this continuous aggressive and irate manner, she was informed she was under arrest but not cautioned and charged.”

Andrew’s lawyer told the court his client pleaded guilty at the outset by letter.

He added: “She had consumed a significant amount of alcohol. She is someone who is on various medications that didn’t mix well with the alcohol. She has no recollection of the events but accepts responsibility. She accepts she cannot use alcohol as an excuse.

“When she sobered up, she did offer her apologies to the police officers. She has a limited record, and this offence is out of character. She is ashamed of her conduct.

“She has a number of health difficulties including agoraphobia. She is extremely anxious and suffers from panic attacks when in the community.”

Sheriff Jonathan Guy told her: “You pleaded guilty to a number of serious offences which pass the custody threshold. However, I'm going to take up the option recommended in the social work report and make you subject to a structured deferred sentence which will call again before me in around six months’ time. I will receive a progress report and consider what is the most suitable disposal.”

Andrews will return to court in September.
