Planning permission has been conditionally awarded for 105 new homes in Gartcosh.
Bellway Homes and Deuchny Properties requested approval for a new development, which also includes an access road on a farmland site north east of Johnston Road.
The housing will be in the form of 81 detached houses with three to five bedrooms, 14 semi-detached three-bed dwellings and 12 affordable housing units consisting of four one-bed Cottage Flats and eight three-bed Terraced Units. In line with planning conditions play provision is also proposed.
The application attracted a total of 39 representations, highlighting concerns such as the capacity of local schools, traffic issues, impact on wildlife and the “aggressive” house building strategy seen recently in Gartcosh.
These points were addressed in the planning report presented to the committee, which highlighted that in 2014 area was been designated a Community Growth Area suitable for an additional 3,000 dwellings with each development either incorporating new play facilities or the council receiving money to upgrade its facilities.
A rumour that the former Mount Ellen Golf Club was also earmarked for housing was also addressed with planners stating permission had recently been granted to establish a garden centre there.
In conclusion the planning report recommended approving the application subject to a legal agreement ensuring payment of a commuted sum for additional affordable housing and the planning board agreed unanimously with this position
