AFTER food, gas and electricity, fuel is often the most expensive outgoing for Glasgow households that run a car.

Last week's spring statement saw Chancellor Rishi Sunak offer 5p off the price at the pump - but this has done little to tackle soaring costs.

Using fuel comparison website PetrolPrices.com, the Glasgow Times has looked at where the cheapest petrol and diesel in the city can be found.

Supermarket pumps were top of the table with the cheapest fuel to be found at Costco then Morrisons and Asda.

Currently the cheapest unleaded petrol in Glasgow is at Costco on Cobden Road in Sighthill at 156.7p per litre.

Sainsburys Braehead is only slightly behind with prices at 156.9p per litre while coming in third is Morrisons at Newlands for 157.7p.

Asda then takes the next slot with its pumps at Robroyston, Govan, Toryglen and Parkhead all offering petrol at 158.7p per litre.

Tesco at St Rollox then comes in at 158.9p.

For drivers on the city's Southside, BP on Pollokshaws Road is the cheapest non-supermarket bet with unleaded at 160.9p per litre.

Shell on Hillington Road was the most expensive with petrol costs rising to 168.9p.

For diesel, Costco again cheapest with fuel at 169.7p per litre with Morrisons at Anniesland and Newlands matching that price.

If you travel to Sainsburys Braehead you can fill up for 169.9p per litre and at Asda that price rises to 170.7p.

Esso's petrol station on Broomloan in Ibrox is the most expensive for diesel at 185.9p.

According to financial comparison website Forbes Advisor, drivers filling up over the border in East Dunbartonshire have some of the most affordable fuel in Scotland compared to earnings.

A 55-litre tank of petrol will account for 13.62% of the typical weekly wage of £618.60 for the area.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the other affluent area of East Renfrewshire has Scotland’s second most affordable petrol, with a full tank costing residents 13.72% of their weekly wage.

This compares to the Scottish average of 17.01% and in Glasgow it is 17.44%.
