A HUGE warehouse will be built in Glasgow after the council gave the go-ahead.

Tritax Symmetry Glasgow East Ltd applied for permission to erect the logistics depot, with offices, parking, and a security fence and gate on Robroyston Road, north-east of the city.

Their proposals were granted by planning bosses, with a list of conditions.

The vacant land within the Nova Business Park will soon be transformed.

Glasgow Times:

In planning documents, it states that the applicant wants to develop the new logistics depot to facilitate the relocation and potential future expansion of HarperCollins UK Publishers Ltd.

The company employs and provides work for around 500 people across its supply chain, editorial and support functions in Bishopbriggs, where it has been based since 1973.

It has a 200-year association with Glasgow, having been founded in the city by William Collins in 1819.

Plans state 372 car parking spaces for office employees will be built, as well as 37 EV charging spaces, 20 accessible spaces, 100 secure cycle parking spaces, and 88 HGV parking spaces.

Employment Opportunities

It is expected that the 500 current jobs will be sustained in the new location, which will bring continued economic benefits to the local and regional economies.

The construction of the development as a whole will require input from a wide variety of professionals and a figure of 150 roles has been drawn from similar developments completed by Tritax in other developments.

The company say they will actively encourage appointed contractors to offer apprentice traineeships for local young people, to provide valuable employment opportunities and hands-on learning experiences in the construction industry, as well as to use local supply chains and tender services in the local area.

Transport

Tritax says the future occupier HarperCollins UK is relocating from existing premises approximately 3-miles from the site at Bishopbriggs, therefore, "traffic will largely be a redistribution of existing movements with an element of new trips due to operations on site".
