GLASGOW nurseries and primary schools could be closed for two days after the Easter break if strike action goes ahead.

Today, the local authority issued a letter to parents and carers reminding them about the possible closures on Wednesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 21.

Unison and GMB have notified Glasgow City Council of their intention to take strike action during these two days.

In the letter, the council said: "As this will affect many of our education services staff, we may be left with no option but to close nurseries, primary and Additional Support for Learning (ASL) schools on these dates and wanted to give you time to plan alternative arrangements."

Schools across the city close early today and return on Tuesday, April 19.

Secondary Schools

If strike action goes ahead, secondary schools will remain open but with restrictions.

  • There will be no breakfast club or mid-morning snack provision
  • School meals will take the form of packed lunch/snacks
  • Pupils not in receipt of free school meals should bring a packed lunch as should pupils with special dietary needs
  • There will be no after school care provision and all school lets will be cancelled
  • Escort provision for pupils entitled to transport cannot be guaranteed and parents/carers are asked to make alternative arrangements
