Planning for a large housing development in East Kilbride has been approved by councillors.

Elected members granted planning permission in principle this week for a development  of 155 houses on Jackton Road in Jackton.

It will form part of the East Kilbride Community Growth Area and has been proposed by Barratt Homes.

The housing site will see two main sections separated by a woodlands area – one to the north and one to the south – with a mix of 15 house types including two, three and four bed detached, semi-detached, terraced and cottage flat properties.

The northern area of the development will be larger and accessible from a  new entrance from a new road which will be developed.

The southern section will also include an access point from the new road and a number of plots will be accessed directly from that road.

A pedestrian link to further phases of development within the East Kilbride Community Growth Area will also be developed.

Statutory neighbourhood consultation was carried out and one letter of comment was received relating to there being a lack of links to other housing developments.  T

he council is satisfied with the layout of the proposed development and the overall masterplan will include a number of links and footpaths.

Another concern related to there not being a play provision included; this concern was addressed and while there is no play area for this site, the site is part of a wider master plan which includes adequate play spaces for children.
