CUSTOMERS at a Glasgow housing association could be missing out on hundreds of pounds of savings.

Tenants and factored owners who have an online account with Wheatley Homes Glasgow are entitled to sign up for its discount scheme.

MySavings is a perk that allows people to access freebies and savings on food shopping, clothes and other bills.

The Glasgow times spoke to one tenant who had saved more than £150 since the start of the year.

Another tenant has been signed up for just a few weeks and is already quids in by nearly £80.

Given the high numbers of Wheatley Homes Glasgow customers, tens of thousands of people in Glasgow could be taking advantage of the scheme.

Jehan Weerasinghe, Managing Director of Wheatley Homes Glasgow, said: “We’re doing all we can to support our tenants as the cost of living goes up.

“MySavings is a great way for tenants to save money on everyday items such as food shopping, clothes and more."

The average UK household spends £3,312 on groceries and £1,716 on restaurants and takeaways every year, according to the latest data from the Office of National Statistics.

And figures show a family of four will spend £431 a month on their food shop and £223 on eating out and takeaways.

Using a 4% discount at Tesco or Asda would reduce that average grocery bill by £17.24 a month, or £200 a year.

At Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Bella Italia and Zizzi, among other restaurants, the discount is 10% - so another potential £20 per month saving on eating out.

Mr Weerasinghe added: “It’s free to sign up and can really help people cut the cost of their weekly shop.

“There’s also a handy budget planner to help keep costs under control.

“MySavings is just one of the many support services we offer tenants to help keep bills down and to claim all of the benefits they are due.”

Those signed up to the scheme can also access perks such as free eye tests and discounts for joining Glasgow Club.

MySavings is open to all tenants and customers of Wheatley Group who have an online account.

Wheatley Homes Glasgow has around 43,000 customers while factors Lowther has around 25,000 customers in the city.
