A FIRST offender who caused her sister-in-law to bleed after throwing a glass at her has avoided jail.

Sabhia Rafiq, 45, turned on Rosina Hussain, 41, at a flat in Govan on August 2, 2019.

The pair had earlier argued with each other before the victim - who has since died - initially chucked the glass.

Rafiq then swung her blow with the weapon which made contact with Ms Hussain's head, causing her an injury.

Rafiq pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Ms Hussain to her injury.

Her husband and former co-accused Imran, 43, - had his not guilty plea to the same charge accepted by the Crown.

Rafiq, of Pollokshields, was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work by sheriff Andrew Cubie.

The court heard the pair were in attendance at Ms Hussain's mother's property.

Prosecutor Lauren Donnelly stated that they "became involved in a family argument which became heated."

The argument escalated when Ms Hussain threw a glass towards Rafiq.

Ms Donnelly added: "Rafiq thereafter picked up the glass and threw it at Ms Hussain, striking her on the head.

"At this time, Ms Hussain's began to bleed."

Rafiq fled the scene as a 999 call was made but she was later traced and arrested.

Ms Hussain was taken to hospital where her head wound was glued.

Ms Donnelly added: "Ms Hussain is now deceased having sadly passed away in April 2021."
