A NEW affordable housing development in the Southside is nearing completion with the final homes set to begin construction.

St Andrew’s Drive, a 120-home development in Pollokshields, replaces 1960s flatted blocks that stood in the area.

Built for Southside Housing Association, the second and third phases of the three-phase development is made up of a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats, and three and four-bedroom maisonettes that will be available for social and mid-market rent.

Two fully wheelchair adapted properties will also be provided while all of the homes are capable of future adaption and will be highly energy-efficient.

Donna Reilly, Southside Association’s Head of Development & Investment, said: "The Association is pleased to see the progress being made with our development at St Andrew’s Drive and will be delighted to see the first new homes being allocated later this year. “

Each home is provided with a private terrace or balcony while communal amenity space for residents is also provided in the form of gardens with new tree planting, wildflowers, rain gardens and children’s play areas.

Work is being led by CCG. It's director John Baggley added: "The progress at St Andrew’s Drive has been positive since the commencement of our works in early-2021 and I thank Southside HA for their support to date.

"Our Site Team has worked diligently to this point and we look forward to commencing construction on the last remaining housing blocks as we transition into the summer period.

Glasgow Times: New Pollokshields homes

"In bringing high-quality, highly energy-efficient homes to the area of Pollokshields, we are also extremely proud to state that the legacy of the build will go beyond bricks and mortar."

CCG has said it will donate a total of £30,000 to community-based projects in Pollokshields.

So far, this has included £10,000 towards the Pollokshields Mutual Aid Food Point on Shields Road, which was gifted to the charity last summer.

John added: “CCG understands the importance of creating a lasting legacy from our housebuilding programmes and contributing long-term value to the communities in which we operate.

"We look forward to working with Southside HA in identifying new projects over the remainder of the programme.”

Works at St Andrew’s Drive will continue over the course of the year with the first homes set for handover in late-summer 2022.
