A MAN caused damage to an Audi car after throwing a kettle out of his flat window.

Ross Harris, 37, appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to damaging someone else’s property.

Police were called to a flat in Mount Florida on the morning of New Year’s Eve last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Victoria Keel said: “At 10.30am, the witness parked his blue Audi A5 and locked and secured it, with all being in order.

“He heard loud music coming from a top flat.

“At 11.15am a witness within her home attended by her window, which looks out to the rear car park. She saw a large object falling from a window of a neighbouring property belonging to the accused.

“She looked out and observed a kettle lying on the ground next to the Audi. She contacted the police to report the incident.

“Officers attended and noted the damage to the vehicle. A corner of the windscreen had smashed. Police carried out door to door enquiries.

“They attended at the home of the owner of the vehicle and informed him of the damage. They then traced the accused within his home. He denied any knowledge of the object being thrown into the car park.”

Harris was cautioned and charged.

Sheriff Allan Findlay asked the prosecutor for information on the cost of damage to the car, but this was not available due to the early plea.

Harris’ lawyer said his client suffers from poor mental health.

The sheriff said: “He is on a community payback order just now and has been getting some support. I’ll defer sentencing for that to continue and for the Crown to ascertain the damage costs of the car.”

He turned to Harris and told him: “We will see how this existing supervision requirement works out. Come back in six months’ time. The Crown will find out the amount of damage in the meantime.”

Harris, of Mount Florida, will return to court in October.
