A MAN caught performing a sex act in front of teenage girls returning from a gig told cops he was 'trying to find a hotel'.

Stephen Vincent was seen on Glassford Street with both hands down his jogging bottoms "getting satisfaction".

The 52-year-old, of Gibson Street, in the West End next to Glasgow University, was caught when a riot van full of police officers stopped at traffic lights next to where he was standing.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the city centre street was full of young girls on their way home from seeing Jake Bugg at the O2 Academy.

The incident happened on March 23 this year, around 11pm.

Police officers on mobile patrol in a van were travelling west along Argyle Street.

They saw Vincent standing still at the junction with Glassford Street.

While the van was stopped at the traffic lights, they saw that Vincent had both hands down the front of his jogging bottoms.

He was "masturbating his erect penis" and, the court heard, “getting satisfaction from it”.

Officers approached and arrested him.

Around 1.40am on March 24 he said to the arresting officers: “I was on the way to a hotel on Stockwell Street to meet someone.

“They had messaged me an hour before and I was trying to find Stockwell Street.”

The depute fiscal told the court: “It was noted at the time of the offence the city centre was busy with members of the public making their way home from a Jake Bugg concert with many teenage female concert goers who the accused was in full view of.”

Sheriff Bernard Ablett called for an additional social work report to be prepared before sentencing.

Vincent will appear again at Glasgow Sheriff Court on May 23.
