A DRIVER was caught with such a "significant" amount of cannabis that cops could smell it from their own car.

Ansar Sadiq was pulled over while driving his BMW as police officers detected a stench coming from his vehicle.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how. around 5pm on June 18, 2020, police were on mobile patrol where they saw the 26-year-old in a grey BMW that was slightly in front of them.

The officers noticed a smell radiating from the vehicle’s direction and so they pulled the vehicle over on to St George’s Road near the Canarvon Bar.

There was a strong smell of cannabis coming from the accused’s vehicle so officers told Sadiq, from Cambuslang, he was being detained for a search.

Officers discovered 40g of herbal cannabis in the vehicle.

His defence agent said: “I must express my incredulity at the officers’ power of smell.”

The solicitor went on to say that Sadiq lives with his parents and brother and is not in a relationship.

He works as a shop assistant and half of his wages go to his parents.

Since this incident he has had one similar conviction that has been dealt with by the court.

Sheriff Bernard Ablett said: “This was a significant amount but for personal use.”

Sadiq was fined £270 reduced from £300 for an early plea of guilty and told to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
