PLANS to build a convenience store near a new housing estate in Glasgow have been submitted.

Applicant Great Retail Ltd hope to build a SPAR shop on vacant land off Daldowie Road, in Glasgow's East End.

A recently new housing estate by Briar Homes sits to the east of the vacant land.

In a supporting statement, it read: "The applicant has canvassed the local community for their views and the proposal is supported.

"A local consultation was carried out through the Broomhouse Community Council to gather data on the desire for a general convenience store to serve this community.

"A questionnaire was issued and responses were hugely positive. Respondents were asked 'Would you like to have a shop/small grocery store in Broomhouse?' to which 357 responses were received with a 96.1 per cent response of 'Yes'.

"There is a clear community need for this amenity."

The proposed development includes cycle parking and 14 vehicle parking spaces including two disabled spaces.

Glasgow City Council planning bosses will accept or reject plans by June 17.
