A SUSPECT has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Glasgow.

Paul Byrne was found seriously injured within a property in Sandyhills’ Glenalmond Street at around 7.50pm on Sunday.

Emergency services attended and the 47-year-old was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Mark Byrne, 49, was later arrested and charged in connection with Mr Byrne's death.

As well as facing a murder charge, he has also been accused of driving or attempting to drive while unfit through drink or drugs.

Byrne, of Glasgow, made no plea when he appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Tuesday.

The case was committed for further examination and Byrne was remanded in custody meantime.

He is due to return to court within the next eight days.

Earlier on Tuesday, police confirmed that Mr Byrne’s family had been made aware of his death.

Detective inspector Cheryl Kelly said: "Our thoughts remain with Paul's family at what continues to be a very difficult time for them.

"I would also like to thank the local community for their help and assistance during our investigation and to those who came forward with information."
