IT'S shaping up to be an absolutely massive summer in Glasgow, especially if you are mad for your music, a gig goer, festival fan or keen on concerts.

An email from Glasgow Taxis a few days ago highlighting just some of the acts coming to Scotland’s greatest city in the months ahead was a real eye-opener.

At the OVO Hydro alone, you have the likes of Anne-Marie, Deacon Blue, Whitesnake, Bryan Adams, The Script, Pet Shop Boys and My Chemical Romance – and that’s only just in May.

Queen + Adam Lambert, Diana Ross, Barry Manilow, Snoop Dogg … the list goes on over the summer months – and that’s only just in one venue.

Throw in June’s Riverside Festival, Harry Styles at Ibrox, Ed Sheeran, Liam Gallagher, Calvin Harris, Gerry Cinnamon and Coldplay – separately, of course – at Hampden, Green Day as well as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Bellahouston Park, plus Guns n Roses then TRNSMT at Glasgow Green… It’s some list, isn’t it?

A big summer on the stage lies ahead – and that’s only just (some) music gigs.

The city’s calendar for the summer is an eclectic mix of all manner of events offering something for everyone.

The PDC’s Premier League Darts returns to the Hydro tomorrow night. All together now: oi oi oi!

The traditional end of May bank holiday weekend takes a one-off switch in 2022 thanks to the Queen’s Jubilee, no Adam Lambert needed for this one.

We have everything from the Dandelion Festival at Kelvingrove to the Men’s 10k on Father’s Day and Pride Parade later in June. Busy times.

So what’s the point of all this signposting to Glasgow’s summer of events, version 2022?

Well it’s easy to forget we’ve navigated through two summers when we weren’t really able to do this.

Remember it’s less than 12 months since we had the crying shame of the Scotland men’s national football team playing their first major tournament match, on home soil no less, but haven’t to do so in front of a fraction of a capacity crowd due to restrictions.

So, a packed summer of events, big crowds, happy faces and all that it brings is very much to be celebrated. There are few crowds at concerts quite like a Glasgow one – and we can host a party like no other.

So, let’s all enjoy what lies ahead over the next few months and pray the weather gods are kind to us.

Now I’m away to look out my Factor 50 and my wellies. That’s what summer in Glasgow means to me.

Stay safe.
