TRIBUTE has been paid to a "much-loved family man" who died following a tragic accident at a building site in Glasgow. 

We previously reported that emergency services were called to Merchant Homes' Lochwood Gardens development in Glasgow's East End on Wednesday morning.

This was following reports of an injury, but a 44-year-old man sadly passed away at the scene.

Merchant Homes has released a statement following the "tragedy". 

Alan Brander, managing director of the housebuilder, said: “Our small, close-knit team is absolutely devastated by Wednesday's tragedy and all our thoughts are with the family and friends of our much-loved colleague.

"He was very much a family man and held in high regard by all the team on our Glasgow site.

"We are assisting his family and have closed our sites as a mark of respect.”

The accident took place on Stepford Road shortly before 11am. 

An investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said: "HSE has been made aware of the accident and is assisting Police Scotland with their investigation." 

Meanwhile, a Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Officers received a report of a 44-year-old man having been injured at a building site on Stepford Road in Glasgow around 10.50am on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

"Emergency services attended, however, the man died at the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”
