A MAN has appeared in court following a fire on the 13th floor of a high-rise block of flats.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze in Glasgow’s Great Western Road shortly after 9pm on Tuesday night.
The fire in the common landing was quickly extinguished, however the residents of the floor were placed into temporary accommodation.
Police Scotland said a 35-year-old man had to be taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after showing signs of smoke inhalation but was later discharged.
The force said the man was later arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
Kevin Murphy, of Glasgow, appeared at the city’s sheriff court on Thursday and made no plea to the single charge of wilful fireraising.
The case was committed for further examination with Murphy released on bail meantime. His next court appearance is yet to be confirmed.
Earlier on Thursday, DI Kenny McDonald said: “Detectives conducted local enquiries, spoke to residents and reviewed CCTV.
"The motive for the fire is unknown.”
