After 20 years, we are just one day away from the official opening of the long-awaited opening of Crossrail.

With the Elizabeth Line opening marking a historic event, there is one station that will not be open to commuters for a few months yet.

As although all stations on the route from Abbey Wood to Paddington are ready to welcome customers, Bond Street Station is not ready yet.

But this is not new to those that have been following the progress of the line, with Transport for London (TfL) making it clear that the Elizabeth Line terminal at Bond Street would not be open in time to accept travellers at the same time as other stations on the line.

Why is Bond Street Station delayed?

The Elizabeth Line has seen ten new stations built-in central London, Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street, Whitechapel, Canary Wharf, Custom House, Woolwich, and Abbey Wood.

Back in 2019, there was a possibility that Bond Street would have a delayed opening after problems were identified, including tunnelling issues in the station in early 2014.

At one point during the build, seeing a potential 18 months delay for Bond Street opening but that was then cut to a shorter time frame.

Although there have been delays to the station, it has still been included in trail operations and testing scenarios ahead of the grand opening.

When will Bond Street Station open?

Bosses at TfL and Crossrail have been shy concerning the opening of the new station on the Elizabeth Line.

But they have previously said that it could open around three months after the Crossrail line opens.

Speaking to Building Magazine in March, Crossrail chief executive Mark Wild said they expect Bond Street to open between August and September this year.

So it's not long to wait until all the stations are officially open.
