A WOMAN who stole a jacket from a toy shop was spotted by the coat's owner walking down Argyle Street with the clothing.

Christina Moran appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for both that crime and for being caught with 78 tablets of street valium.

The depute fiscal told the court first how the 39-year-old was caught at the Paisley Road West Travelodge on November 20, 2020, around 5.10pm with the drugs.

Police had been called out to the hotel where they found Moran under the influence of a substance and searched her.

They found a bag of 78 etizolam tablets in her right jacket pocket and she was arrested, cautioned and charged.

The court then heard how on May 12, 2021, around 7pm the store manager and assistant store manager of Tokyo Toys on Union Street were downstairs cashing up.

One of the men had left his jacket upstairs by the till and went he went back upstairs it was missing.

The staff member was then walking along Argyle Street and saw Moran carrying his jacket, which was valued at £150.

He called police and was told not to approach her.

Cops checked CCTV and saw Moran who was later cautioned and charged.

The jacket was not recovered.

Her defence lawyer told the court Moran has a long history of drug use but is currently working with housing bosses to get a tenancy.

Sheriff Allan Findlay said to her: "This has got to stop," and Moran agreed.

But the sheriff added: "You keep telling me that.

"If I give you a chance does the thieving stop?"

Sheriff Findlay deferred sentencing until November 28 and called for a community payback order progress report.
