IMPROVEMENTS to parks across Glasgow are to take place with £1.5m to be spent.

Work includes on playparks, new walking and cycling routes, sports and games equipment and tree planting.

The cash is being allocated to local area partnerships to approve projects in parks in their area.

Six of the area areas are being asked to approve plans this week.

It includes almost £90,000 for parks in the East Centre ward.

Proposals include spending £17,500 in Greenfield Park on new active travel routes to support walking and wheeling, and bulb and wildflower plug planting and tree planting.

Budhill Park is to get £37,000 for the children's outdoor play area.

Another £14,500 is planned for Lethamhill Road play area and greenspace for work to the entrances, railings, benches and woodland management.

Parks in the Springburn/Robroyston ward will receive £81,800 for work including £48,000 for engagement work with the community to bring forward costed proposals which could include children’s play, support volunteering, tree planting, heritage, biodiversity and active travel.

Another £24,000 is earmarked for children’s play areas.

Southside Central ward is to get £74,000 for a range of works including the replacing and repainting of play equipment and replacing play area carpets at Riccarton Street Park.

Work to repair and repaint the fence and new boards and nets at the basketball court worth £27,000 is planned.

Bulb planting at Riccarton Street and at Calder Street and Brennan Street will take place.

An outdoor table tennis table and will cost £5000 and Balvicar Street play area will get a contribution towards a wider package of funding to support a full refurbishment.

Parks in Newlands/Auldburn will receive £60,800, with works including replacing slabs and steps in the area to improve walking and wheeling spaces, more wildflower and bulb planting, and improvements to lighting.

Pollok Country Park will see work to refurbish the existing dinosaur heads near the fairy garden and add an additional one costing £4000.

Newlands Park will get £800 to supply and install a storage container for tools to support Friends of Newlands Park in their volunteering activity.

In Ballieston, £54,900 has been allocated including £24,000 for Broomhouse Park for walking and wheeling active travel facilities linking to the local roads and new bike stands.

Sherbourne Park and Barrachnie Park will both also have active travel routes as well as bulb and wildflower plug planting, tree planting, the creation of wetland habitat and surface water management, costing £15,000 each

Hillhead is to get £49,000, mostly for funding to increase the scope of the play area refurbishment project with new equipment.

Tree planning at North Woodside Road and Mayhill Road and new plants and shrubs will be given £3600.
