A BANNED driver who fled from police after they tried to speak to him about a broken window has been jailed for 136 days.

John Duff raced from officers in a grey Fiat Punto in Glasgow's Darnley on May 24, 2022.

The 35-year-old "panicked" upon seeing blue lights and drove on the wrong side of the road.

He was later stopped during the pursuit after driving down the wrong way of a petrol station car wash.

Last week, Duff pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.

The court heard police tried to stop Duff's vehicle as they clocked that his window was smashed.

Duff failed to stop and blue lights were activated by the officers.

He then "drove at excessive speed with the tyres screeching on the opposing carriageway."

Duff went off road and travelled over a pavement.

Prosecutor Cheryl Lyons added: "He went into a nearby Esso garage and went through the car wash the wrong way."

Duff was caught before a police check found that he was a disqualified driver.

His lawyer Sean Flannigan told the court that Duff had earlier been given the car by an acquaintance.

He added: "The acquaintance was going to scrap the car but gave Mr Duff it instead in the damaged condition.

"He drove the car when he shouldn't have with the clear and obvious damage to it.

"It was highly likely he would attract the attention of the police which it did.

"When they stopped to speak to him about the damage he panicked and drove off."

Duff was given a three-year driving ban on top of his sentence.
