It was a kick in the guts and as low a blow as you could get... if you're a Celtic supporter that is.

Everything was ticking along nicely. USA defender Cameron Carter-Vickers secured a permanent four-year deal and Jota is imminent (well he has been for the past while hasn't he?)

Then... BOOM!

Out of nowhere came respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano's tweet that Josip Juranovic could leave Celtic this summer.

Wait a minute. Josip Juranovic? The same Josip Juranovic who signed a five-year deal last summer? The same Josip Juranovic who is never done telling everybody how happy he is at the club? The same Josip Juranovic who has the Champions League group stages and a World Cup finals to look forward to?

That Josip Juranovic? There must be some mistake.

Social media has gone into overdrive since that story emerged and Celtic supporters are now throwing their tuppenceworth in as to how many millions it would cost club 'x' to prize Juranovic away from Glasgow's east end.

If Juranovic is indeed attracting interest from English Premier League clubs after a great season for club and country then he is going to cost - surely (Don't call me surely).

The tweet did not mention any EPL clubs specifically by name but after such a successful season where Ange Postecoglou, Juranovic and co. sealed the Scottish Premiership title and the League Cup it would be naive in the extreme to believe that there aren't suitors out there who covet goods from Paradise. That's the way football works.

When it comes to Juranovic and Celtic, the club has done its homework and due diligence though in this instance. He is about to turn 27 and, although the club sold Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen for approximately £12million including add-ons, the Germans were buying potential.

Arguably Juranovic has still to reach his top and peak levels for both club and country which makes the penning of a long-term deal a shrewd piece of paperwork and business by Celtic last summer.

Then again: isn't Ange Postecoglou supposed to be building a beautiful house? Surely losing one of the main cogs in the foundations is not in the original plans - is it?

Earlier this month the player was quoted as saying: “I enjoy Celtic. I had a break due to an injury for six and a half weeks, but I’m fine now. I won the title with Celtic and I can’t feel better than I do.

"I started my career, I won the championship in Poland and now in Scotland and I can’t wait to get back to Glasgow again for the new season. It is great for me at Celtic. We’ll see, it’s not up to me! I’m happy at Celtic.”

A week is a long time in politics so they say. It's even longer in football and situations can change by the day, hour and minute as we all know. Those damn pesky football agents doing the work on behalf of their clients - what are they like?

Really, only two men can nail this to the mast: Josip Juranovic and Ange Postecoglou.

Celtic are in a bit of a win-win situation here though - aren't they? If Juranovic stays then the Hoops have in their possession a player who is vital to the green and white cause both domestically and in Europe.

If Juranovic actually wants to trade Paradise for the Premier League then so be it. In that case, clubs should form an orderly queue and be ready to show Celtic the colour of their fabric. Should he go it will surely be for at least six times the initial £2.5m the club paid Legia Warsaw for him. Either way Celtic are quids in.

If Postecoglou gets to reinvest the guts of that sourcing a replacement then you would trust him to get it right. He has an exemplary record when it comes to his dips into the transfer market so far.

Juranovic leaving Celtic would not be the end of the world then. However, if he goes after just 12 months when the club could be on the verge of something special under Postecoglou it might just well stick in some of the faithful's Croats.
