EXHAUSTED passengers have been left furious after claiming easyJet “abandoned” them at a German airport.

The flight had been traveling from Dallaman to Glasgow last night when it had to be diverted after a woman began to struggle with heart pains.

The medical emergency saw the plane land at Frankfurt airport on Thursday 12.30am leaving customers “stranded” in the terminal.

This comes as the airport curfew meant most shops and restaurants were closed and no teams were available to refuel the plane.

It meant passengers, including some travelling with small children, felt like they were being “treated like cattle” after being forced to stay with German security.

They were offered food vouchers for the limited open shops however claim staff refused to accept the tokens provided.

Now customers have spoken to the Glasgow Times claiming no member of the easyJet team communicated what was going on until they finally reboarded the plane at 11.30am this morning.

Izzi McFaul was one passenger on the flight who had been travelling home with friends when she got caught up in the diversion.

The 52-year-old mental health charity worker, from Anniesland, was appalled by the “horrible” treatment and is now demanding a refund.

She told us: “Abandoned, that is exactly how we felt.

“easyJet never came to check on us or guide us or anything. We were treated like cattle and just left in the airport not speaking the language with no idea what was happening.

“It was absolutely shocking, the treatment easyJet gave us was terrible.

“When we got off we were told we would fly again at 5am but that didn’t happen, the easyJet staff didn’t come with us to the airport either so we were alone.

“The flight was near enough full and there were people travelling with small children who had run out of nappies.

“I had bought a bottle of Greygoose vodka in Dallaman duty free and was forced to put it in the bin because I didn’t have my receipt.

“We were told someone would speak to us but it never happened, the next time easyJet spoke to us was when we were getting on the flight home.

“A guy from Frankfurt airport gave us a 25 euro voucher for food and drink but when people would go up with hungry kids, the staff said they didn't accept them.

“If they had even had someone tell us the situation and how long we would be there and communicate with us, it wouldn’t have been so bad.

“It put a dampener on our whole holiday.”

 

A spokesperson from easyJet said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6892 from Dalaman to Glasgow last night was required to divert to Frankfurt due to a passenger on board requiring urgent medical assistance and the passenger was met by medical services on arrival in Frankfurt. Unfortunately due to the airport’s curfew, the flight had to be delayed overnight and departed this morning.

“Due to the curfew, passengers were unable to exit the airport and while this was a matter of security, we fully understand the difficulty this will have caused.

“Our team worked closely with the airport to ensure passengers were as comfortable as possible in the circumstances, providing free food and refreshments from the aircraft upon disembarking and passengers were also provided with refreshment vouchers in the airport.

“We would like to apologise again to our passengers for their experience and thank them for their understanding in these difficult circumstances.

“The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”
