A Glasgow carer reportedly showed up to work under the influence of alcohol and swore at a vulnerable resident.

Colin Dickinson has been struck off after allegedly attending his shifts at a Key Community Supports in Glasgow under the influence of alcohol.

The support worker was also assaulted by one resident who grabbed him by the neck, to which he responded to by saying “you b******”.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) deemed his behaviour “serious” and accused him of putting colleagues, residents, and himself at “risk of harm”.

Dickinson denied all accusations and was said to have failed to show any insight as to why his actions were unacceptable.

The SSSC report said: “You went to work twice while under the influence of alcohol and a key part of your job was providing care to vulnerable people.

“During one of those shifts you did provide care to vulnerable service users while under the influence of alcohol.

“Your actions placed the service users, your colleagues and yourself at a risk of harm as alcohol is likely to affect your judgement.

“Your behaviour, by saying, 'you b******' to a service user, albeit while they were physically assaulting you, could have placed him at a risk of emotional harm.

“Your response raises concerns about your attitude and temperament.

“This behaviour goes against the values of a caring profession and is incompatible with the behaviour that we expect from a registered worker.”

The report added: “Your behaviour is serious.

“You deny the allegations but have shown little insight as to why the behaviour would be unacceptable.

“This makes us think that you will repeat this behaviour in the future.

“We need to find your fitness to practise impaired to protect the public.

“If we don’t take action, the public will think that the SSSC is not an effective regulator.”
