A DRUNK mum called her son a “wee c**t” in front of cops who were called to a disturbance at a flat in Glasgow.

The 46-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the child, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing last week.

She was charged with wilfully neglecting the boy by taking him to a property during the pandemic, leaving him alone with intoxicated people, consuming alcohol to excessive levels in his presence and shouting, swearing, and uttering offensive remarks towards him.

The court heard police were called to a flat in Possilpark at 10.15pm on April 9, 2021.

After gaining entry, they noticed a number of people within, including the young child in the living room, who was running around.

There were several empty alcohol bottles and glasses lying on the floor.

Two drunk women were in the living room shouting and swearing, meanwhile, the boy’s mum was found in the bathroom.

She was described as being highly intoxicated. She staggered into the living room and began to shout at the boy, including calling him a “wee c**t”.

Police warned her in relation to her behaviour.

Arrangements were made for the child to be placed in the care of another family member, and his mum was taken back to her home in North Glasgow.

She was not formally cautioned and charged at the time.

The woman’s lawyer said it was an “incident that got out of hand”.

She added: “Around the time of the offence her mother had just passed away. She turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism.

“She should have made arrangements for the child to be in the care of someone else but ultimately, she didn’t expect herself to behave in this way.”

The defence solicitor explained that there was never any formal intervention with the social work department and the child continues to live with her.

She added: “She is anxious to put this matter behind her. I was wondering if you could defer sentence to keep an eye on the family.”

Sheriff Charles Lugton said: “This does seem to be a concerning incident, especially for the welfare of your son on the night in question.

“I'm told things have settled down now. I will defer sentence for six months. If you’re of good behaviour, I will deal with this matter leniently.”

She will return to court in December.
