A Glasgow care boss has been warned after swearing and threatening staff.

Nicola Marshall roared at distressed colleagues: “I want you down to the office f****** now."

She also warned: "If I find out, I’ll make your life hell."

She also said “two carers have went and f****** told the paramedics that the stain on BB’s mattress is dried in f****** blood” in front of horrified residents and their families.

The incidents happened while Marshall was working as a supervisor and nursing assistant for HC-One Limited at Mavisbank between February and March 2019.

Now she has had a warning placed on her Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) registration for a period of 30 months.

It comes as the regulatory body suggested the carer failed to “maintain self-control when faced with challenging situations”.

They also went on to say she showed only “limited” insight into her behaviour’s impact.

Marshall was also accused of stating “f****** carers” repeatedly as well as “did you take him for a f****** cigarette, I told him to wait”, “you shouldn’t have f****** took him, I told him no” or words to that effect.

The SSSC report stated: “Social service workers are expected to communicate in an appropriate manner and must treat others with dignity and respect.

“You have shouted and sworn at colleagues within the hearing of residents and members of the public.

“This behaviour had the potential to cause distress to the colleagues you were shouting and swearing at, as well as those within hearing of you doing so.

“There were several incidents across a relatively short period of time.

“The behaviour displayed appears to demonstrate an inability on your part to maintain self-control when faced with challenging situations.

“This causes concern that the behaviour will be repeated in the future.

“We consider that the behaviour, while inappropriate, is capable of being remedied but has yet to be remedied.

“You have acknowledged one of the allegations, indicating that you would act differently in retrospect.

“You have denied the rest of the allegations.

“You have displayed limited insight into the behaviour and the impact this could have on others.”

A spokesperson for Mavisbank said:

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our Colleagues and our Residents is our top priority. The type of behaviour exhibited by this individual goes against our values and expectations as The Kind Care Company, and as such we support the decision of the SSSC.

When we first became aware of the behaviour that had occurred, we took swift action to suspend the individual, and launch our own investigation to establish the facts. The individual in question has not worked for HC-One in any capacity since the time of this historic incident. We have worked closely with the SSSC throughout their investigations, and we are grateful to our Colleagues in the home for immediately raising their concerns with us using our stringent whistleblowing processes.

We will always support appropriate action being taken against any individual who does not meet the high standard of kindness we expect, and which everyone living and working in our home rightly deserves.”
