A Glasgow man was caught with nearly £500 worth of drugs.

Shiraz Shabir, 42, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week after being charged with being in possession of cannabis with the intent to supply it to others.

The prosecutor stated the drugs recovered were valued at £480 and accepted that part would be for personal use.

Cops seized the cannabis from a vehicle being driven by Shabir at 12pm on July 13 last year.

His lawyer said: “He is a man who appears before the court with a number of previous involvements with the Misuse of Drugs Act.

“He has been involved for many years. In my view, it’s more of a health matter as opposed to a criminal.

"I am asking you to put in place some sort of structured support. Unpaid work could be imposed for punishment.”

Sheriff Simone Sweeney told Shabir: “I will place you on a structured deferred sentence.

“The case will call again in four months’ time and the court will have a report on what progress you’ve made.

"Should you fail to take the opportunity, all sentencing options remain open to the court.”

The Pollokshields man will return to court in October.
