A man made around 60 nuisance calls to a challenging behaviour practice in Glasgow every Monday and Thursday morning for months.

Paul Mann, 46, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week charged with behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

He repeatedly called the centre on Hunter Street, in Glasgow’s East End, and uttered abusive remarks to staff between July 1, 2019, and February 7, 2020.

Prosecutor Brogan Moffat said: “In May 2019 the accused was referred to the centre for the first time.

“He felt he shouldn’t have been referred. He began phoning using the direct access number.

“Due to the persistent nature of the accused’s calls, a recording device was installed in July 2019. The calls escalated.

“He would call the centre every Monday and Thursday morning between 50 and 60 times per day. This went on for approximately 10 months.”

On many occasions, Mann was verbally abusive to staff and called them “cows”, c***s”, and corrupt c***s”.

He also referred to male doctors as paedophiles.

The practice decided to contact the police regarding the issue. Whilst officers were present, Mann made 18 nuisance calls to the centre.

He was told to desist on each occasion.

Police later traced him at his home. He was cautioned and charged and advised the matter would be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Mann’s lawyer told the court a social work report was not available and that a letter from the social work department would “cause concern”.

He added that his client is now willing to comply.

Sheriff Simone Sweeney told Mann: “You have allegedly behaved in a way which is unacceptable towards staff during the course of their employment.

“That’s caused the case to be delayed as the report is not available today. It’s open to this court to remand you in custody, however, you seem to be willing to work with the social work department now. I’m giving you one final opportunity.”

Mann will return to court on the completion of the social work report.
