A PENSIONER has died and two people have been left seriously injured after a fatal house fire in Cumbernauld.
Emergency services were called to Glen Fyne Road shortly after 6am this morning.
A 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men, aged 82 and 50, were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
At around 9am, Lanarkshire police shut down the road and asked members of the public to avoid the area.
Enquiries into the blaze are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.25am on Friday, July 1, to a report of a house fire in Glen Fyne Road, Cumbernauld.

"Emergency services attended and a 79-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Two men, aged 82 and 50, were taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 6.05am on Friday, July 1, to reports of a house fire.
"Operations control mobilised six fire appliances and an aerial height appliance to Glen Fyne Road in Cumbernauld."
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
