A man who approached his ex in the street and asked her personal questions went on to prevent her from walking away.

Hamza Djeddou, 40, appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing last week charged with behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

On the afternoon of September 18, 2018, his ex-partner and her friend were walking under a bridge near the St Enoch Centre.

They were approached by Djeddou, who stated he wanted to speak to her several times. He shouted and repeatedly attempted to engage her in conversation.

He then requested the woman to disclose information about her personal life on several occasions.

The pair tried to leave but were prevented from doing so by Djeddou, who appeared to be aggressive.

Police were later contacted and traced him. He was cautioned and charged and replied, ‘but I didn’t hassle her’.

Djeddou’s lawyer explained that her client had been in a relationship with the woman, and was planning on marrying her.

The defence solicitor added: “All of a sudden, communication ended. He was frustrated and saw her and was asking her questions.

“He was never intending to make her feel distressed, but he had to know the answers. The offence was from 2018 and he has moved on.

“He doesn’t have any previous convictions.”

Sheriff Allan Findlay deferred sentence for Djeddou, of Glasgow’s East End, to be of good behaviour.

He will return to court in six months’ time.
