MORE than 20 weapons will be banned under a new law in Scotland - and people who own any are being urged to surrender them.

From December 1, 2022, it will become illegal to possess the following offensive weapons:

  • Balisong or Butterfly knife
  • Belt buckle knife 
  • Blowpipe or Blow gun 
  • Cyclone knife or Spiral knife 
  • Disguised knife 
  • Flick knife or flick gun 
  • Footclaw 
  • Gravity knife 
  • Handclaw
  • Hollow kubotan 
  • Knuckleduster 
  • Kusari gama 
  • Kyoketsu shoge 
  • Manrikigusari or Kusari 
  • Push dagger 
  • Shuriken or Shaken or Death Star
  • Stealth knife
  • Truncheon or Baton 
  • Swordstick
  • Telescopic truncheon 
  • Zombie knife 

The "Offensive Weapons Surrender and Compensation Scheme" has now been launched by the Scottish Government in advance of a change in legislation.

Anyone who has any of the listed offensive weapons can surrender them to certain police stations before September 30, 2022, and compensation from the Government can be applied for.

You can hand in your weapon anonymously, but compensation cannot be applied for.

Weapons must be wrapped up and placed in a bag or box, so they are not visible. 

Glasgow-based police stations in which you can hand your weapons in:

  • Govan Police Station
  • Pollok Police Station
  • Cathcart Police Station
  • Castlemilk Police Station
  • Gorbals Police Station
  • Maryhill Police Station
  • Saracen Police Station
  • Baird Street Police Station
  • Shettleston Police Station
  • Baillieston Police Station
  • Easterhouse Police Station
  • Glasgow City Centre Police Station
  • London Road Police Station
  • Partick Police Station
  • Drumchapel Police Station

Anyone found to be in possession of any of the listed offensive weapons after December 1 this year, may be charged under the Offensive Weapons Act 2019.
