A string of busy Glasgow roads will be closed next week as filming starts on a Bollywood blockbuster.

Action thriller Tehran, starring millionaire movie star John Abraham, will be shot at several locations across the city from Monday until July 28.

Several streets will be shut and people are being warned to plan their journeys in advance, with only access to emergency services or vehicles given special permission by council chiefs.

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: “Roads affected, and dates and times of restrictions apply to all vehicles, with the exception of an emergency service vehicle carrying out an emergency response or vehicles given permission from Glasgow City Council filming and events section.”

Routes impacted by the arrival of film crews include King Steet between Osborne Street and Bridgegate from 3pm on Monday until 11.30pm the following day.

Drivers will also be stopped from entering New Wynd between Parnie Street and Osborne Street from 10am until 11.30pm on Tuesday. Restrictions will also be in force on Osborne Street between King Street and Stockwell Street from 7pm until 11.30pm on the same day.

The blockbuster, which is described as a geo-political thriller based on true-life events, is expected to prove a money-spinner for the city. It follows the arrival of Hollywood crews last year, who transformed parts of Glasgow to film The Batman and the latest in the Indiana Jones franchise.

A string of other busy city centre streets will also be closed at varying times as the cameras roll for Tehran.

Cardogan Street, between West Campbell Street and Douglas Street, and Blythswood Street between Waterloo and Holm Street will be closed from 6pm until 10.30pm on Friday.

Wellington Street, Blythswood Street, West Calder Street and Waterloo Street will be closed from 3pm and 10.30pm on July 17, while cars will be unable to access the full length of Brown Street between Crimea Street and Argyle Street from 10am until 10pm on July 25.

Wilson Street between Glassford Street, Virginia Street and Virgin Place, will also be closed to traffic from 10am to 10pm on July 26.

Bell Street between its junction with Albion Street and High Street will also be affected from 10am until 11.30pm on July 28.
