Glasgow was recently named the fourth best city to visit in the world right now.

Our fine city was also crowned the friendliest and second most affordable by Time Out following a survey of more than 20,000 people with input from local editors and experts.

Glasgow was lauded for its music, nightlife, arts and culture.

Arusa Quershi, Time Out's Scotland correspondent, noted: “Glasgow is without a doubt one of the best places to be.

“Its world-class venues, clubs, restaurants and bars make it impossible not to have a great day or night out in the city, whatever your taste.

“Glasgow is also a city with passionate locals that are forever looking out for the most vulnerable in society.”

However, Glasgow was pipped to the top spot by Edinburgh.

Scotland’s capital was heralded for its “scenic hotspots” and “historic landmarks” among other things, but ranked low for diversity and romanticism with 70% of people saying they consider it expensive.

In response to Time Out’s 53 best cities, we took to the streets of Glasgow to ask visitors what they think of the rankings.

Glasgow Times:

Felicity Short, 17, from London, said: “I haven’t been to Glasgow that much but all the people I know from there are really lovely, and they all say Glasgow is better.”

Glasgow Times:

Both Maureen and Christoforos Stylianides, from Hamilton, said they prefer Glasgow to Edinburgh.

Maureen, 62, said: “I think it should have been a bit higher up. The people, that’s what you notice right away. My husband is from Cyprus and he prefers Glasgow.”

Christoforos, 57, added: “Yes, I love Glasgow. [It’s] the buildings.”

Glasgow Times:

But Arran Imrie, 27, from Fife, said: “Don’t hate me but I prefer Edinburgh.

“There’s really good stuff to do in Glasgow, but the scenic views, [Edinburgh’s] a nicer city to be in.”
