A FEMALE cop has been left seriously injured following an alleged disturbance in Drumchapel. 

Police were called to Glenkirk Drive at 11.25pm on Saturday night.

Officers were met with a large group of people who reportedly began to assault them and shout abuse.

Seven people were arrested and charged following the incident - three women, aged 30, 34, and 41, and four men, three aged 18 and one aged 23.

All will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow. 

The female officer injured was taken to hospital and medics have described her injuries as serious. 

Locals reported seeing a large police presence, with more than a dozen police vehicles at the scene. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.25pm on Saturday, 16 July, officers attended reports of a disturbance on Glenkirk Drive, Drumchapel.

“A large group of people were gathered and on seeing the police arrive, became hostile and began assaulting them and shouting abuse.

“This resulted in a female officer being taken to hospital for treatment. Medical staff describe her injuries as serious.

“More police units were called to assist and three women, aged 30, 34 and 41, and four men, aged 18, 18, 18 and 23, were arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“The 30-year-old woman is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.

"The other six people have been released on an undertaking, and are also due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court tomorrow.”
