A DRUG dealer was found to have hundreds of pounds worth of cocaine within an “adapted compartment” in his boxers.

Sean Menzies was stopped by cops on Aitken Street in Dennistoun on November 11, 2019.

Officers had reason to search the 28-year-old and found £890 in notes in his jacket pocket.

During the search, a mobile phone kept ringing with unknown numbers.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court last week, prosecutor Laura Martin said: “He was transferred to London Road police office for a full search.

“During this search, two large wraps were found within an adapted compartment within the accused’s boxer shorts. These wraps were found to be cocaine.”

The court heard a total of 63 grams of the class A drug was found, worth £720.

One wrap contained 12 individual wraps and the other contained 50.

Menzies was cautioned and charged and made no reply.

He appeared for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to being concerned in the supplying of the drug.

His lawyer said: “He is a first offender and is a man who has a significant issue with cocaine - both at that time and currently.

“Through his use of cocaine, he allowed himself to become involved with the wrong people on this evening. The people who sell it.”

Sheriff Valerie Mays replied: “It seems very sophisticated for one evening.”

The defence solicitor revealed that his client had recently self-referred himself to addiction services to help reduce his cocaine use.

But the sheriff said: “That’s interesting timing given the offence is two-and-a-half years old. Why is it just now as he appears for sentencing?”

“Social work advice,” the lawyer revealed.

He added: “I think it’s commendable. Whilst I accept your comments, it’s still a step to address his issue. He is very aware that the court takes a dim view of this type of offence. He would comply with any order.”

Sheriff Mays told Menzies: “It wasn’t clear to me that you did accept the gravity of the offence but now you are aware this is a serious offence.

“It was two-and-a-half years ago and there has been no further offending since. You appear before the court as a first offender. There is an alternative to custody.”

Menzies, of Dennistoun, was ordered to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work.

He was also placed under social work supervision for nine months - with a conduct requirement to engage with addiction services.

The sentence was imposed as a direct alternative to custody.
