A TEENAGER dragged a blade across a woman's face in an attack in a Glasgow park.

The woman had thought the 17-year-old was joking when he approached her on Glasgow Green and she laughed.

But, Glasgow Sheriff Court heard last week he pulled out a knife and ran it across her cheek.

Depute fiscal Brogan Moffat told the court of the events of August 1 last year.

Ms Moffat said it was around 4.30pm when the teen went up to the woman and stated: "Declare your name."

She replied: "Are you having a joke?"

The teenager then said: "I'm going to stab you."

Still thinking the boy was joking, she said back: "Go for it," and laughed.

He then pulled out a lockback knife from his coat, locked the blade and dragged it across her cheek.

The teenager, from Carntyne, then walked away and sat with a group of youths.

His victim went to the police and told them what had happened and that there was a person with a knife in the park.

Cops identified him quickly afterwards and he was cautioned and charged and taken to London Road police station.

The teenager's defence brief told the court: "The girl in question thought it was a joke.

"There was no intention of causing any damage but we have a situation where he shouldn't have had the item in the first place whatsoever."

The court heard the boy has now left school and has a job with Glasgow City Council.

Sheriff Allan Findlay said: "Your age has saved you from a more serious sentence.

"You don't walk around this town with a knife, do you understand?"

Sheriff Findlay referred the teenager to the youth court where he will appear again in two months' time in front of the same sheriff.
