A DAD banned from driving handed himself over to cops after he was spotted on the road.

Rehman Akhtar dodged jail for the office with Sheriff Allan McKay tagging him instead. 

Around midday on May 24, 2020, officer noticed a vehicle in a driveway that had been flagged on the police system.

The car had been seen being driven on Leslie Road and Newark Drive in Pollokshields, despite the registered keeper, Akhtar, being disqualified. 

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how cops approached the car and felt the bonnet, which they found to be warm to the touch.

Akhtar, of Pollokshields, then came out of the house and admitted to police that he had been driving.

His defence brief told the court he was already on a community payback order and had been making good progress on that, including doing unpaid work.

The lawyer said the 26-year-old now has a child with a woman who he sees regularly.

The solicitor said: "This is giving him a new recognition of his responsibilities, as a father."

As a direct alternative to jail, Sheriff McKay tagged Akhtar for 36 days.
