A TEENAGER attacked his mother and grandmother in a violent outburst.

Around 6pm on August 13, 2021, Gary Burns had turned up at the home of his mum and gran under the influence of drink.

His gran told the 18-year-old to leave but he refused, Glasgow Sheriff Court heard.

Burns punched his gran to the head, causing her to fall to the floor.

His mum then tried to get him to leave the property but he again refused, kicking her to the stomach.

The depute fiscal told the court last week how Burns eventually made off and cops were called and came out to the house.

He returned by himself and apologised for his actions.

Police arrested, cautioned and charged him.

To Burns's solicitor, Sheriff Allan Mckay said: "This is a first offence, which is remarkable given the [criminal justice social work] report.

"This is an aberration in his conduct. He has got to where he is despite multiple adverse experiences without any convictions."

The sheriff then added: "This is wholly unacceptable.

"You are not violent by nature and have no previous convictions.

"Clearly alcohol had a massive role to play, in that when you are sober you are a completely different person."

The court heard Burns, from Cambuslang, is in a stable relationship and otherwise doing well.

He was placed on a structured deferred sentence and told this will be referred to the youth court.
