A MAN was caught with cocaine in his sock in a Glasgow court.

Custody prison officers within the Glasgow Sheriff Court cell area had reason to carry out a search of Usman Bhatti on the morning of December 18, 2020.

The 27-year-old was in custody at the time.

During the search, a plastic bag containing white powder was found in one of his socks.

Staff placed the drugs in a production bag and police were contacted.

The powder later tested positive for cocaine. It weighed two grams and was valued at £105.

Bhatti appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to being in possession of the class A drug.

His lawyer said: “He was previously in full-time employment, but a community payback order and restriction of liberty order had been put in place and he was unable to continue working.

“He is keen to gain employment again. He does seem to be doing a lot better. The order is in its early stages after being put in place on June 15.

“It involved 200 hours of unpaid work and supervision.”

Sheriff Charles Lugton told Bhatti: “You’ve just been placed on a community payback order. I’ll not sentence you on this case today.

“I’ll defer sentence for good behaviour for six months.

“If you’ve been of good behaviour and are complying with your order, I’ll anticipate drawing a line under this matter.”

Bhatti, of Pollokshields, will return to court in January.
