A MAN found to be rummaging through a garden shed ran away after being confronted by the owners.
A couple were in their home at Lochaber Drive in Rutherglen when they overheard someone in their back garden at midnight last October 19.
When they looked outside, they saw a man dressed in black. This was later found to be Ryan Welsh.
They saw him in an unlocked garden shed and going through the contents within.
After going out to confront him, Welsh jumped over a garden wall and ran onto the street.
Police were contacted. Officers attended and carried out an area search.
But a short time later, another person contacted police regarding a man in a common close.
Police identified and found the man described to them. Welsh was taken to London Road police office, where he was cautioned and charged and made no reply.
Welsh, of Cessnock, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week after previously pleading guilty to being found in the curtilage of the property, with a reasonable inference that he intended to steal.
Sheriff Charles Lugton revealed the 24-year-old is already on two community payback orders and is “doing well”.
The sheriff told him: “You seem to be complying very well.
“The constructive thing for me to do is let you get on with that.

“I will defer sentence for six months and call for a good behaviour report and progress reports on the two orders.
“If you continue to comply, I will anticipate drawing a line under this matter.”
Welsh will return to court in January.
