A Glasgow carer got a service user pregnant then reportedly told her “it's all your fault”.

The social services worker also allegedly gave her money to get a taxi for an abortion and threatened that she would lose her place in care if she told anyone about their relationship.

It comes after he entered into a sexual relationship with service user AA, who was living with addiction issues.

The carer reportedly told AA “if you show them messages from me, I will show them emails from you” or words to that effect.

He also compelled her to display a negative pregnancy test after the abortion.

The worker has now been struck off the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) register for his shocking actions.

The behaviour happened between April and October 2020.

The carer has since shown “insufficient insight and no real remorse for the actions”, according to the watchdog.

The SSSC branded his actions “a significant abuse of a position of trust” which should be “considered very serious”.

Now the SSSC considers a removal order the most appropriate sanction as it is "both necessary and justified" in the public interest and to maintain the continuing trust and confidence in the social service profession and the SSSC as the regulator of the profession.

A report from the SSSC stated: “When AA told you she was pregnant, [you stated] to her 'it’s all your fault' or words to that effect.

"Your actions caused AA emotional and physical harm and amounted to a significant abuse of a position of trust.

“You used controlling behaviour towards her in order to conceal this relationship from others.

“Your actions fall far below the standards expected of a social service worker and are fundamentally incompatible with professional registration.

“Your actions are considered very serious.

“You significantly abused the trust of AA by seeking and continuing an improper sexual relationship with her.

“You took advantage of your position to make contact with her when she was a vulnerable service user, demonstrating a clear breach of professional boundaries.

“You then formed a sexual relationship with AA which resulted in a pregnancy which was terminated.

“Your behaviour amounted to a fundamental failure to follow the values set out in the Code of Practice for Social Service Workers.”

They added: “A suspension order would not be appropriate as your behaviour is fundamentally incompatible with continuing registration.

“The interests of people who use services and the public would not be sufficiently protected by any period of suspension.

“There is little evidence you acknowledge your failings and the pattern of behaviour and lack of insight suggest the behaviour is likely to be repeated.”
