NEARLY 2000 youngsters started school for the first time today in Renfrewshire.
Barsail Primary welcomed 51 four and five-year-olds through its door.
Headteacher Emma Mavers said she was delighted to welcome the new primary ones into the school.

She said: “I am delighted to welcome our new primary one pupils to the Barsail family.
"They will be nurtured and cared for by all staff and by their doting primary seven buddies.

"It is hard to believe that they will be with us until 2029."
Education convener Emma Rodden, added: “The start of term is always an exciting time, especially for children starting primary one today.
"I hope all new P1s and all children and young people returning to school have a great first day.”
New lunch menus for children at nursery and primary also started yesterday.
