THE search is on for Glasgow’s unsung heroes who work hard to make the city better for all.

Who deserves to be recognised for the impact they are making on your neighbourhood?

The Glasgow Community Champion Awards are back, and 2022 marks the 15th anniversary of our ground-breaking initiative, supported by Glasgow City Council, Wheatley Homes Glasgow and Trades House Glasgow.

Glasgow Times:

Once again there will be nine trophies - Team Award, Individual Award, Public Service Award, Uniformed Services Award, Senior Award, Young Award, Health and Wellbeing Award, Sports Award and School Award - up for grabs and a public vote will decide regional winners in three areas of the city – the North East, the North West and the South.

Closing date for nominations is September 28.

'I want to give kids more opportunities': Milton karate coach on how Glasgow Community Champion Awards gave charity a boost

Last year’s winners included PEEK (Possibilities for Each and Every Kid) who triumphed in the Team Award category. PEEK provided food, activity and wellbeing packs and online play, art and cooking sessions to families struggling to cope during the pandemic.

Heather Bryson won the Individual Award for her incredible fundraising efforts and support of people with dementia during lockdown and the Uniformed Services Award went to Glasgow’s Quit Your Way teams, which offer week to week support to those who find it hardest to stop smoking.

The School Award was presented to FARE Community Allotment Schools’ Plots, a group of six schools which helped turn an Easterhouse garden into a fantastic community hub.

We know there are other inspirational individuals, super schools and great groups like PEEK, Heather, Quit Your Way and FARE out there – so now we need you to tell us about them. Who do you think deserves recognition for fantastic community work?

You can nominate anyone, from the hardworking coach of young person’s sports team, to a nurse who goes above and beyond the day job; from an inspirational teenager making waves at school to a pensioner who campaigns for better services.
