A one-minute silence will be held on Sunday, the night before the Queen’s funeral.

A spokesperson for the Prime Minister said the silence would be a "shared national moment of reflection" held “to mourn and reflect” on the life of the Queen.

People are being encouraged to take part at home, on their doorsteps or in their community.

It will be at 8pm on Sunday, September 18.

The Prime Minister's official spokesperson said the silence can be observed "privately at home on your own or with friends and neighbours, out on your doorstep or street with neighbours, or at any locally-arranged community events and vigils".

They added: "We encourage local community groups, clubs and other organisations to mark this moment of reflection. And if you are overseas, people are encouraged to mark the silence at their local time."

The state funeral for the Queen takes place on Monday, September 19 at 11am at Westminster Abbey in London.

Her coffin will be taken by Royal Navy gun carriage from Westminster Hall where she will be lying in State for four days before the funeral.
