Fans of Scots actor Martin Compston queued for hours outside a charity shop to snap up some of the Line of Duty star's most prized outfits.

The actor handed in clothing, including a suit jacket he wore on BBC drama The Nest and a Soccer Aid tracksuit, to Ardgowan Hospice's branch in West Stewart Street, Greenock.

Maggie Buchanan was the first in the door and snapped up one of the hospice patron's stylish bomber jackets and a jumper.

The 36-year-old has been a fan of Compston since tuning into Line of Duty during lockdown last year.

She said: "Martin is such a good actor and he's done Inverclyde proud.

"He is a great ambassador for Ardgowan Hospice, which is where my dad passed away and his work with them really means a lot to me.

"I love that the money I paid is going to a good cause."

The Sweet Sixteen star stopped by the hospice's shop last week to drop off his film and TV memorabilia.

He also gifted the local charity a couch, which is now on sale at the store.

Youngster Chloe Kincaid arrived early with her mother Morag to be among the first to snap up some of the star buys.

The 17-year-old left with one of the actor's jumpers.

She added: "I'm a big fan of Martin's, I've followed his work for a good few years.

"I first saw him in Sweet Sixteen and then I watched all his other stuff.

"I've not had the chance to meet him yet. I was on the same plane as him once but that's the closest I've come.

"I can't wait to try his jumper on."

Ardgowan Hospice's retail manager Katrina Garcias said the charity was fortunate to have Compston's continued backing.

She said: "He's always helping out and hopefully this will make a lot of money for the hospice.

"We've got some great items here from things like Soccer Aid, Gogglebox, The Nest and Traces.

"People can come along and get a souvenir and raise money for a good cause in the process.

"We had a flurry first thing with people waiting for us to open.

"It's very unusual, normally we get a steady flow in here but nothing like what we seen yesterday. It was a really buzz for the volunteers.

"I want to say a big thanks to Martin for his donation, we're so lucky to have him as our patron."
