A cafe owner has gone viral on TikTok for his brutal reply to a bad Tripadvisor review.

Dan Smith, owner of Roasters in Paisley, was shocked after one disgruntled customer, who he branded "a mad moron", took their negative review online.

In the establishment’s only negative Tripadvisor review, the punter slammed them for “cheap” coffee and meat as well as accusing them of watering down their cocktails.

It was then the 26-year-old boss responded, reminding the individual not to “rubbish someone else’s hard work" over their “stinker of a mood”.

The exchange was shared on social media by the Roasters TikTok page and gathered more than 33k views and thousands of likes.

Dan captioned the video: "A proper stinkin made up review by a mad moron, love it."

The review read: “Honestly no clue why folk hang about outside to get served basic food from cheap ingredients.

“Overrated, low quality, cheapest coffee beans, cheap meat and now serving watered down cocktails.

“Totally no creativity as it takes all menu items from TikTok to play on what’s current and to make a quick buck.

“More fool you if you go to this place.”

But it was then Dan, who wasn’t aware up to that point the business was even on Tripadvisor, wrote a scathing response - insisting he only uses fresh and high-quality products.

He went on to argue the menu is a “play on classic dishes” that “everywhere else has copied off us".

Dan's reply said: “I’m hoping Tripadvisor allow this version of my response.

“Superb - didn’t even know we had Tripadvisor but here we go. Not sure if you’ve reviewed the wrong place but anyway let’s dissect this bogus attempt at smearing my business.”

He also said: “I am always open to critique, but this is just plain and simple nonsense. What I won’t tolerate is a berating of my business and my team's work that is totally unjustified.

“Anyway, I have some paint to go watch drying so won’t waste any more time on this.

“Next time you feel like berating someone’s business have a long hard look at yourself and remind yourself at that very moment, that just because you’re in a stinker of a mood, doesn’t mean you have to go spout some rubbish about someone else’s hard work,

“Hopefully never have you back, kindly Dan, rubbish business owner.”

Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Dan explained he felt he had to be honest and protect his business.

He said: “My business is my passion, so I felt I had to protect it.

“The honest story is I was looking for somewhere to eat when I noticed we were on Tripadvisor.

“I didn’t even know we had one, and when I looked and saw this stinking review, I just thought that is absolutely false.

“It is so easy to slander someone behind a computer, but I just knew I had to stand up and back myself up because I knew I was correct.

“I thought here is an opportunity to show folk who we are, and I think my customers respect the honest response.”
