The go-to Christmas decoration destination in Glasgow caused a stir when they launched their festive displays in Autumn.

The Rouken Glen Garden Centre in East Renfrewshire is widely celebrated for its lavish displays of Christmas goodies and loyal customers look forward to their release each year.

Gina Crosbie, manager of the store, said: “When the kids go back to school, that’s when we start.

“It’s not full on then, but we do start then.”

A lot of work goes into the displays and by the end of August, the first tree is up.

The decorations are sorted into themes chosen by the staff. Among this year’s themes are pink, blue and gold, red and white and the most popular, tartan.

Gina, who has worked at the Garden Centre for 17 years, revealed to the Glasgow Times why Christmas starts so early at the store.

Glasgow Times:

She said: “People, families especially and especially this year like to buy a wee bit each month.

“They can’t afford to do it all together.

“People maybe buy a tree one month, decorations the next month, so they spread the cost because the last two [months] are really presents and food.”

She added: “As soon as we put it out, people buy it because they do like to budget.

“See if you have a family with three kids, you can’t afford to go in December and buy it all because you’re buying their toys and your food shop.”

The Garden Centre has been doing Christmas the same way since Gina started, making it something their customers can rely on.

Gina said: “The only things that change each year are the layout and the way it looks.”

This year has been one of the busiest the store has had in a long time for Christmas shoppers.

Gina said: “People really are buying earlier this year, really trying to spread the cost this year more than any.”

The staff orders the Christmas stock in January to come for the holidays, so when something is sold out it won’t be restocked.
